Safeguards seniors from being forced onto private Medicare Advantage plans without choice.
Fighting Gun Violence & Protecting Our Families
The Angellyh Yambo Gun Free Zone Expansion Act:
Bans ghost guns and expands gun-free zones in schools, as well as early childhood education centers.
Enhancing Credit Access for Bronx Residents
The Juneteenth Credit Score Act:
Uses alternative data, like rent and utility payments, to create credit scores for individuals typically invisible to traditional credit systems.
Fire Safety Legislation to Protect Families
The Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act:
Establishes safety standards for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to prevent fires in devices like electric scooters and bikes, which are the #1 cause of fires in the Bronx.

Strengthening Voting Rights of Black Americans from Disenfranchisement
The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act:
This legislation would strengthen voting rights by expanding and strengthening the government's ability to respond to voting discrimination.
Lowering Prescription Drug Costs
Congressman Torres was proud to vote for the The Inflation Reduction Act that created a cap on senior's out-of-pocket drug costs including a $35 per month cap on insulin for Medicare beneficiaries. Additionally, the law allow the government to negotiate with drug companies to keep prescription prices affordable for Bronx residents.

Ritchie Torres is fighting to get 33 million Americans a first-time credit score. Under the Congressman’s proposal, millions of Americans would get a high enough credit score to take out a mortgage and become first-time home owners.
(Background: The Congressman has been pressuring Government-Sponsored Enterprises—such as the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac—to adopt a form of credit scoring known as Vantage, which, unlike FICO, factors in rent payments).
